Gus McKay BA(Hons)
Gus (only his mother calls him Angus) was born in Dalry and has lived there all his days. He is married to Shirley and they have four grown up children - a daughter and three sons as well as three lovely grandchildren.
Gus has been involved in Dalry Trinity for over 40 years and is an elder there.
Leaving school at 18, Gus went to work in Roche (now DSM) for 28 years before taking voluntary redundancy.
Following a time of prayerful discernment, Gus enrolled at The International Christian College in Glasgow with the intention of studying for two years but stayed for four completing an honours degree in theology. His time at ICC took him to Nigeria for four and a half months as an exchange student.
Gus’ journey after graduating firstly involved working with two gentlemen who had severe learning difficulties. This led on to working initially as a support worker at the Lodging House Mission and then as Chaplain to The Homeless Community in Glasgow. His work entailed drawing alongside men and women of various ages who were or had been homeless. Many of them had issues with addictions as well as multi complex needs. Although it was often very challenging, Gus considered it a privilege to work with those in such need.
Gus has been Parish Assistant to Cumbrae and Largs: St John’s since May 2018.
